Rev. Hyo Sun Oh is a full elder of the Northern Illinois Conference of The United Methodist Church. She served Sheridan and Norway United Methodist churches as her first two-point charge appointment from 2010-2016 and served Lemont United Methodist Church from 2016-2021. More recently, she served Roselle UMC from 2021 to 2025.
Hyo Sun was born in South Korea and grew up in a Methodist family which has run for five generations deep. She felt God’s calling into ministry as a teenager and attended Seminary and Graduate School in S. Korea. She served three local Korean Methodist churches focusing on children, youth, young adults, new member ministries as well as, church administration since 1990. Hyo Sun also earned B.A. in English and secondary education from Araulo University in the Philippines while serving the Filipino Methodist congregation as a missionary. She came to the U.S. in 2007 to follow God’s calling into the ordained ministry in The United Methodist Church and earned a Master of Divinity from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in 2010. She completed M.Div Plus Program in Church Leadership at Kellogg School of Management of Northwestern University for Nonprofit Management in 2013; the Institute of Congregational Development of NIC in 2015; Financial Leadership Series for Churches in 2022 at Garrett-ETS. She has been serving the Board of Ordained Ministry (BOM) of NIC since 2016.
Rev. Oh is passionate about proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ to all God’s children since she felt welcome, acceptance, and love in The United Methodist Church. Her strengths in ministry has shown in the areas of worship, Pastoral care, hospitality and generosity. She is also committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ through all aspects of the church’s ministry and mission. Rev. Oh is married to Seung Woo Lee. They both enjoy gardening, sharing produce with friends and neighbors, and cooking Korean Kimchi.
